Week 14, FYP2 : Submission of Thesis and Technical paper

Update week 14

For progress in week 14, I continued to write the thesis report and technical paper. The submission of these papers is within this week. So everything needs to be finalized and completed within the due date. For fyp2, the thesis will be covered from chapter 1 until 5.

Chapter 1 - Introduction

Chapter 2 - literature review

Chapter 3 - Methodology

Chapter 4 - Result and Discussion

Chapter 5 - Conclusion and Recommendation

Basically, for chapters 1 & 2, there's nothing to be changed because my project is still following the idea and concepts from the original proposal. For chapter 3, I need to re-write back the project method because a lot of things have been modified.

Chapter 4 will contain the data and results from the project that has been tested. For my project, the data that have been produced are only SpO2 and the heartbeat of regular patients. The data on temperature cannot get because of a few problems with the coding program.

For chapter 5, it will discuss and conclude the whole work progress from the beginning until the end. Besides that, the recommendation is one of the important must be written in this chapter to improvise this project in the future.

Last but not least, again, I would like to thank my supervisor, Madam Azliza, as contribute to this project in terms of giving an idea and suggestions. Next, to my mother and friends who always give the support in everytime.

Week 13, FYP2: Presentation Day! & Preparation of technical paper and thesis draft

 Update week 13

This week on a Wednesday is the presentation day for Final Year Project 2. The event will be held at Gemilang Hall from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm. The figure below shows how I set up my booth before doing the presentation. Here is the thing that needs to be prepared:

1. Banner

2. The project

3. Laptop

The feeling was mixed between nervous, anxious, and excited on that day. I'm quite scared to present my project but at the same time, I feel so proud that I could finish up this project until this time. Below is the picture of when I presented the project to the assessor.
I receive a lot of positive comments as to improvising this project to be more better in the future in terms of hardware and software.

Last but not least, I would to thank my supervisor Madam Azliza that always supports, helped, and advised since fyp 1 until fyp 2. Also not forget to my friends and family, specially my mum that always support me and been there during my hardship.

Week 12, FYP2 : Sketch a banner, Troubleshoot a project, Collect the Data

 Update week 12

For the progress in week 12, I need to do a lot of things before the presentation day. First, I sketch a banner in the PowerPoint, where I put all the information regarding my project. It is purposed to make it easier for the assessor and audience to read and understand the concept of our project. Here are the things that needed to place on the banner:

1. Introduction

2. Methodology

3. Results

4. Conclusion

5. Acknowledgement

6. References

Below is the figure of the banner sketch:

Next, I am troubleshooting the circuit board because one of the components, which is the Infrared Temperature sensor, is not functioning correctly. As you can see from the picture below, a temperature value is not pop up on the Arduino serial monitor.

The error stated is "nan," which means the sensor is not broken or burned, but it has a problem with the code program. Based on my review, the coding was unstable because there was a clash of communication between the 2 libraries of MAX30100 and MLX. In the beginning, I try to change the bus speed of MAX30100 from 400K to 100K, so it will be the same as the MLX bus speed. Unfortunately, the coding was unstable, and only two parameters could be processed and displayed on the websites.

Furthermore, I'm trying to modify the coding by adding the reset value codes. Its purpose is to reset all the form values to zero initial values. But it still fails to capture the temperature value.

Finally, I'm running out of time to do this project, and my supervisor advises only focussing on SpO2 and heartbeat reading. Pictures below show the result that the MAX30100 sensor has captured, and it can be seen through the serial monitor on the Arduino IDE software and on the websites.

SpO2 and heartbeat reading on the website

I made it to run this project and collected the data with help from a UniKL student. I tested this project on healthy people to observe the functionality of the MAX sensor. Thank god the sensor is working perfectly, and the data show the value is stable.

Last but not least, for right now, I'm still working and testing my project because there are still a few things that didn't fulfill the expectation. Till meet next time and thank you.

Week 11, FYP2 : Casing for Project

 Update week 11

For casing to place the circuit, I'm using an Enclosure box that uses PVC  as the main material. Below is the casing box that I use to put the circuit inside there.

At the top of the box, I have drilled four holes to place out the sensor on the surfaces. Below is the picture of the holes:

1 - LED

2 - Pushbutton

3 - MAX30100

4 - Infrared sensor

Next, I used thin cardboard as the casing base. Here is the work of cutting cardboard before putting it into the casing.

The reason I place the card board into the box is to support the circuit board from moving and falling.

Week 10, FYP2: Celebration of Eid Raya & Continued with FYP Progress

 Update week 10

Progress in week 10, so far, the progress of my project, which is a Health Monitoring System with IoT, is nearly up to 70% complete. I have run a few tests for the single components such as the MAX30100 sensor,  Infrared sensor, and ESP8266 to test their functionality before making the connection on the board. After making the complete circuit connection, the project is functioning well and has processed the results as what I expected based on the project objectives. The data that has been produced is still raw and not very accurate 100%, so I need to look at a few parts and run more tests on the project.

As you can see from my previous post in week 9, I have posted the figure of my circuit board project. In that figure, there has one LED component that I use in this project. The usage of LED is functioning to give a sign to a user that the data have been captured and will send to the cloud. When the user has pushed the button, automatically LED will generate, and data of Heartbeat, SpO2, and temperature will send to the cloud through the Wifi.

That's some of the updates for this week, thank you.

Week 9, FYP2 : Progress of the circuit project

 Update week 9

Progress in week 9, I am still working with the main circuit board. Above the circuit, several main components are an Infrared sensor, max30100 sensor, button, and microcontroller. I made a few changes to the project structure by replacing the Arduino UNO with the Nodemcuesp8266 as the microcontroller. Both components have the same features and functions:

  • To process data from other devices and convert it to digital form.
  • The only difference between the two components is in their size.

In addition, I also added a button function on the mainboard, intended to send data to the main page. If the medical officer has the correct data, they need to press the button, and then the data will be sent directly to the cloud.

Here is the picture of the mainboard:

Furthermore, I am also preparing a suitable container/casing to place the project.

That is all for week 9, thank you.

Week 8, FYP 2: Attend Workshop 4 (Presentation & Defense Proposal)

 Update week 8

For the progress in week 8, I have attended workshop 4 which will explain about Presentation and Defense Proposal for students FYP 1 and FYP 2. Today's workshop will focus on the preparation of Slide Presentation and documentation, final results, and tips & tricks during a presentation.

Besides that, the most important point that was being highlighted by the lecturer are:

1. Planning

2. Preparing

3. Practicing

4. Presentation

For this semester, the presentation for Final Year Student 2 will be conducted face to face at Gemilang Hall Unikl BMI. Wish us luck!
